The Compaq C770US has surpassed my expectations.Easily upgradeable to 3 GB of RAM, it makes this machine a power house.Runs Mac OS X (Yes, I said Mac OS X) flawlessly, renders things in photoshop/final cut extremely fast. The CPU that comes with this computer can push quite out quite a bit.Windows Vista works great on it too. I love Vista, Some people simply do not know what their talking about when they talk bad about Vista.Hard drive space could be improved. I just purchased a 320 GB 7200 RPM Hard Drive, so that should improve performance. This laptop WILL NOT let you down.Dual display mode make this machine a great desktop replacement for me.Handles my multi tasking like it's nothing.
It runs very smoothly, and has great wi-fi connectivity. But this Compaq was a great buy, at around 550 dollars; it has everything a person needs in a PC. I was a little skeptical at first. I am very happy with this purchase. 2 GB Ram, a big hard drive, well you can just see the item description. It's exactly as they mention it. Though I'm giving a great review on this product, a lot of other computers are coming out around this price, so look around before you purchase this one. You might find an even better PC under 600 dollars.
The cost to replace the screen is $2 less than what I paid for the laptop. I purchased a Presario F762NR four months ago. This is not a review of this specific model but of Compaq service. I have owned many Compaq products in the past and currently have 4 in the house. The screen has now failed. I returned it to Compaq for repair and they refuse to honor the warranty unless I buy an additional warranty. Compaq service used to be excellent; things have changed. I will no longer purchase any Compaq product and recommend that you consider the risks involved.
The computer runs Vista without any problems; I haven't yet tried reconfiguring it for Linux, but I'm guessing everything other than the dial-up modem will work fine. I ordered this laptop because my family needed an extra computer, and as I'm the closest thing to a power-user we have, I gave my own computer to my mother and purchased this machine. While the system is only a small step up from what I had before, it certainly does everything that the information on Amazon promises - which is not a lot, given how sparse the details are. The Aero interface runs smoothly, even on the integrated Intel graphics chipset (which is not officially supported by most newer games, but which can be configured to run just fine with a lot of them). The only real complaint I have is something that's going to happen with any preconfigured Windows system, which is the crapware that comes preinstalled. Without access to a program like PC Decrapifier (which you can get for free with a Google search), it'll take a few hours to clear the crap off of the computer.
